Casually Crafting Design Team Blog Hop Monochrome Butterfly

It’s blog hop time again and this month we have a colour challenge. the challenge was to use Basic Black, Basic Grey and Basic White, with so much Christmas colour around at the moment this was a real challenge!

I decided the lack of colour needed to be made up for with lots of detail, it wasn't too difficult to choose stamp sets which fitted the bill.

Very Versailles is an old favourite of mine, I love the trailing leaves stamp. I've also used Butterfly Brilliance, it is a single very large stamp with 6 different butterfly images. I must confess I have cut mine up! I never want to stamp all 6 at the same time so it made sense for me.

I started with a 5 1/2 inch basic white square and stamped the largest butterfly in black. I then stamped the leaves top and bottom, also in black. Lastly I stamped more leaves in basic grey.

A blending brush was used to add some grey to the edges, helping to make the black and white butterfly stand out more.

I wanted the butterfly to be a little more three dimensional so I stamped in again and fussy cut around the wings and body. There was no need to try and cut around the antenna as they are already stamped on the base layer. I stuck the body down and lifted the wings a little.

The sentiment is from Heartfelt Wishes and has been heat embossed in white on black and the fussy cut. The sentiment then sits on a strip of black cardstock.

The image layer has been mounted onto a slightly larger black square before adding to the card base and I've added three little pearls on the right hand side.

So how do you think you get on creating a card with no colour? Please do have a look at the other blog posts, you are sure to find lots of inspiration by clicking through the links below.

Thank you for looking and if you are interested in purchasing any of the products used, here are the links to my shop.

Back soon,
