Casually Crafting Design Team Blog Hop Colour Challenge

I am definitely in full on Christmas card creating mode at the moment so it was quite nice to have an excuse to make something different. Having said that, technically I’ve used a Christmas bundle, Penguin Place but it works just fine for a birthday card.

The colour challenge was to use Pear Pizzazz, Daffodil Delight and Polished Pink, really summery colours that go so well together.

Towards the bottom of my post you will find links to blog posts by other members of the Design Team. Please do hop around the blogs, you will find lots of inspiration.

So my card features the cute little penguin but the main design element is the background which has been stamped in the three featured colours using a Saleabration set - Textures and Frames. I've also added some detail in each of the stamped circles, read on to see how.

I started with a square of basic white cardstock and worked out where the centre was by putting a ruler from corner to corner and making a small pencil mark where they would cross. As the texture stamps are photopolymer it was quite easy to stamp that first circle centrally.

Next I stamped to the left and the right, allowing the circles to just touch. It wasn't too difficult to then do the top and bottom rows, all quite nicely lined up by eye.

To add the extra detail (stamp set Puffin Party) I used the same colour as the background and in the case of the parcels and the sentiment, simply stamped inside the coloured area. With the cake and the candles, I wanted to stamp off the edge and rather than masking I chose to stamp the image onto the textured stamp, hopefully the picture below will help to explain how.

With the background stamping complete I mounted it on to Be Dazzling Speciality Paper, another Saleabration item. It's a lovely champagne gold colour and seems to go with everything.

The ballon has been fussy cut from the same paper and to make it easier, I stamped on the reverse and then cut out the balloon shape.

The penguin is punched from black and white cardstock with the eyes and beak detail stamped. The cute little feet are also punched from the Be Dazzling paper, doesn't it look like he's got his dancing shoes on!

I attached some white bakers twine to the back of the balloon and penguin before sticking them on using dimensionals. The sentiment has been fussy cut and stuck so that it looks like it's attached to the balloon string.

Lastly I added a few In Color Jewels just for an additional bit of bling. I think this would make a perfect birthday card for someone little, especially if they love penguins.

Below the blog hop links you will find details of all the products used.

Thanks for looking,
